The intention of this magazine is to highlight Cheerleading as a sport around the state of Arizona and showcase our cheerleaders as role models! The best part of this Magazine, it is FREE to all of the cheerleaders and coaches!! Arizona cheer continues to grow and be recognized through the devotion of the Cheerleaders who provide influence and motivation to the community. This is our opportunity to educate Arizona and bring the sport we are passionate about to the pages of our own magazine!!
Well the rivalry I am going to talk about is the one between Desert Vista High School home of the Thunder and Mountain Pointe High School home of the Pride. The tension between both schools is ridiculous. When the two schools play each other in football the game is called the Tukee Bowl. This past year (2008 season) the game was televised on ESPNU. The football players (at least DV) goes crazy the week before the game. The majority of the football players will get mohawks in order to intimidate the Pride. (I do not know what MP football players do, I go to DV) The fans and students always come with their game faces on and decked out in their school theme color (Desert Vista wears white and Mountain Pointe wears black). Like football in all other sports like volleyball, baseball, softball and etc. when DV plays MP it always adds tension to the players and coaches. The feeling of "We have to Win" pops in everyones heads. The crowd turnout is always better if it is a DV MP game. Even though these two schools are in the same town, Ahwatukee, the tension these two schools bring can be felt throughout the valley and state.
